Recycle Week: This year Anglian is "getting real about recycling"

Lets get real about recycling campaign slogan

Following a week of the nations biggest annual recycling celebration, National Recycling Week 2022 has now concluded. Over the past week, 17th - 21st October, Anglian Waste Recycling have been getting real about where we are, where we want to be and how we're going to get there together. Businesses and individuals across the UK have more questions than ever about their recycling, so we made it our mission to support this important campaign by giving our audience real answers throughout the week. Organised by WRAP, under the Recycle Now brand, the nationwide event is run with the objective to build awareness and encourage increased participation in recycling behaviour.

Recycling in the UK saves 18 million tonnes of CO2 a year, as a result, reducing greenhouse gas emissions which lead to climate change - this is why it is vital we encourage responsible recycling.

Lets get real about recycling

Having completed eighteen successful years, WRAP decided that the 2022 campaign theme was "Lets Get Real About Recycling" which focused on answering three common questions that many people have when it comes to the subject of recycling:

  • Does my recycling really make a difference?

  • One item in the bin can't hurt, can it?

  • Recycling is so confusing, isn't it?

The simple answer to these questions is yes, everyone that contributes to the recycling journey, however big or small, is making a difference to our environment and correct segregation of waste plays a massive role in this. As we've demonstrated on our social media over the previous week, doing recycling right, whether that's at home or work, doesn't need to be confusing or scary.

Recycle Now, along with hundreds of other businesses including Anglian, have provided information and insights to answer these questions and clarify that by recycling, we really can make a difference. By taking the time to educate ourselves and each other about what can be disposed of where, can make a massive impact. One wrong item in the recycling bin from each of us can make a whole lorry load un-recyclable - we encourage checking on your local councils website which will list the items that can go into your bins, so you can make correct and responsible decisions about your waste.

How have we supported National Recycling Week?

Over the previous week there have been a host of exciting activities across the whole UK, and here at Anglian Waste Recycling it was no different. We are located in a town of recyclers so we made it our mission to further encourage the recycling in Norfolk and beyond. Our team were excited to get involved in this occasion and supported by participating in a range of events to raise awareness for this campaign, including:

  • Turning our social media accounts green! Anglian Waste Recycling completed a social media takeover across our LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. Using our platform to educate our audience, share interesting facts, tips and provide insights into our work lives at Anglian.

  • With the help of local environmental hero, Stacy Bradley, on Wednesday 19th October, our team got involved in a local community litter pick across Attleborough town centre. This was a rewarding morning giving back to the community and made even more so by us being able to segregate the waste to be recycled. All glass bottles were put aside to raise money for a local village hall.

  • Our team attended a "Journey to Net Zero Expo" event in Norwich on Thursday 20th October, where we held our own stand to present what we are doing as a business to contribute to the environment. It was a fantastic event where our team had the opportunity to exchange expert advice to help advance the work and strategies by more Norfolk businesses.

What's next?

Despite this campaign being a week long event packed with fun activities, at Anglian Waste Recycling we understand that this is an ongoing serious issue that we all need to continuously work to combat. That's why our mission and values are focused around making sustainable decisions and working towards a zero waste to landfill target. By offering a responsible waste recycling service, we hope to provide our clients with the tools to help their business take a step in the right direction to recycle correctly and reduce their impact on the environment.
